The state game commission says the four day bear season produced a preliminary harvest of 2,639 bears. The 2011 four day bear harvest totalled 3,154.  The 2010 harvest, which offered a three day season with a Saturday open, totalled 2,815 bears.

Harvest results from the early bear season, including the statewide archery bear season, won’t be available until mid-December. Official total bear harvest results will be available in early 2013, after a detailed review of each harvest report is completed.

The top ten bears processed at Pennsylvania Game Commission check stations all had actual or estimated live weights that exceeded 562 pounds.   The largest harvested bear by an East Stoudsburg man, weighed an actual live weight of 709 pounds.

Among local hunters, a 576 pound male was taken by Dana Landis, of Chambersburg, in Southampton Township, Bedford County.

Lycoming County, with 262, was the top bear harvest county for the four day hunt. Bear harvest totals by county in the Southcentral region were Huntindon, 92, Bedford 76, Mifflin 42, Blair 35, Perry, 29, Juniata, 27, Fulton 22, Franklin 14, Snyder 8 and Adams 1. In the Southeast region, 25 bears were harvested in Dauphin County, Schuylkill 20, Berks 2, Lebanon 1.
