State police are investigating a shooting near the campus of Shippensburg University that sent a 20-year-old man to the hospital early Saturday morning. Shots rang out just before 1 a.m.  at 45 Sunbeam Court, troopers said.

It all started when a large group of people assembled outside the home wanting to start a fight with someone living inside, state police said. The residents attempted to resolve the issue but with no avail.

During the melee a chair was tossed through one of the first-floor windows. That’s when state police say one of the men in the group outside pulled out a gun and fired it into the home. The bullet hit a man in the torso who was inside, troopers said.

The victim was treated and released at Chambersburg Hospital.

No word if any suspects have been identified or arrested.

It is unclear if those involved in the shooting attended Shippensburg University.
