Most people don’t choose to spend the day with a cop but kids in Lancaster county are choosing to do just that.

About 70 kids, along with their cops, spent the day at Wal-Mart on Lincoln Highway in East Lampeter Township as they participated in ‘Shop with a Cop’.

The Trinity Lutheran Evangelical Church in Lancaster has hosted the event for the past three years by giving kids a $100 gift card so they can purchase gifts for them and their families.

The church started the program for kids impacted by the criminal justice system and usually have a parent that is incarcerated.

The director of the program, Rev. Timothy Mentzer, says that last year they even had two kids, ‘pick the officer that had arrested their father’. He says that really helped everyone realize that the program does have tremendous benefits.
