One dead, one critical in Harrisburg shooting

A young woman is dead and another man is clinging for life after being shot inside an apartment in Harrisburg.  Harrisburg Police got the call for a shooting at...
6th street homicide 2

Police say a short time later, the believed shooter turned himself in to police.  He is being interviewed by police right now.  The gun used in the crime has also been recovered.  Police believe the three people knew each other although the extent of their relationship is unknown at this point.

The shooting scene sits right at the corner of North 6th Street and Pear Street, just a block from the Capitol Complex.  During the morning, state workers who use nearby parking lots were circling around the scene, trying to get to work.  However, police say they do not believe state workers or the Capitol Complex played a role in the shooting.

Harrisburg Police have seen a recent rash of  violent crime over the past several weeks.  Earlier in the week, a gunmen held police at bay for hours in the Hall Manor neighborhood, shooting at police before taking his own life.  Police have also investigated at least two other homicides in the past month.  Chief Pierre Ritter says he is not sure of the reason for the spike in violence but he says sometimes the holidays brings on an uptick in crime.

The Dauphin County Cororner was seen bringing the body of the female out of the apartment around 8:15 a.m.  An autopsy is expected to be performed on the deceased woman who is believed to be in her early 20’s.  That will determine the exact cause of death.  Coroner Graham Detrick described the scene inside the apartment as a mess.

Police will continue to investigate the motive surrounding the shootings but they say the public is in no danger because of this incident.
