Elderly Pedestrian Struck & Killed in York County

An 81-year-old York County man is struck and killed after retrieving mail from his mailbox.  It happened at around 3:19 Wednesday afternoon in the 3300 block of Days Mill Road in North Codorus Township.  Police say that Wayne Brennamen, had just walked across the roadway in front of his home to retrieve his mail.  He was headed back to his home and was in the middle of the roadway when he was hit by a car driven by 18-year-old Danielle Alkin, of Seven Valley’s.

A preliminary investigation by Southwestern Regional Police  indicated that the incident was unavoidable by the driver.  The roadway was closed for hours for a crash reconstruction team.  Any additonal witnesses to the incident is asked to contact Officer Holly Jackson at (717) 225-1333 extension 114.

Licensed drivers are responsible for being in control of their vehicle at all times. This WAS most likely avoidable.

Unlessyou were there and saw it dont assume it was avoidable. So many possibilities, did he stumble into the roadway, have a medical emergency no one knows thats why he police investigate, its not for their health.

My only comment is why do you have to cross the road for your mail, I think the mail boxes should be on the side of the road you live on.
