The portion of the ramp from southbound Interstate 83 to Derry Street in Swatara Township, Dauphin County, will be closed to traffic on Sunday night, Jan. 6, from 8:30 p.m. until 6 o’clock the next morning (Monday, Jan. 7). The ramp is located at Exit 47. Though the ramp portion to Derry Street will be closed, the exit will still provide access to Paxton Street, eastbound Route 322 and Eisenhower Boulevard. The closure for the ramp to Derry Street is necessary so that  construction crews can safely cut and trim trees and remove brush and debris in the right-of-way along the ramp. The operation is expected to take only one night to complete.

This work is part of an overall $2.7-million project awarded last summer by PennDOT to Hempt Bros., Inc., of Camp Hill, Cumberland County, to trim trees, clear brush, repair and resurface Eisenhower Boulevard and several on-and-off ramps associated with I-83, Interstate 283 and Route 322. Work began at the end of August 2012 and is scheduled to wrap up in August 2013.

PennDOT encourages motorists to slow down and pay attention when approaching and traveling through work zones, not only for their safety, but for the safety of the road crews.
