Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is backtracking from controversial comments comparing Hurricane Katrina  to Superstorm Sandy.

Reid said Friday the devastation caused by Katrina was “nothing” in comparison to Sandy. The Nevada Democrat made the comments on the Senate floor, while complaining that Congress has taken too long to address the damage caused by Sandy.

In a statement Monday, Reid said he simply “misspoke.”

Both storms were deadly and expensive. Katrina was responsible for 1,833 deaths and about 180-billion dollars in damages. Sandy claimed at least 113 lives in the U-S and caused nearly 80-billion dollars in damages.
