A 14 year old student was stabbed several times in the torso and arm by another student at Wilson Southern Middle School in Spring Township, Berks County this morning. The victim was able to able to identify his attacker, also a 14 year-old student at the school. The school was placed in lockdown, as per district policy, and police were provided with a picture of the alleged assailant. Officers from the Spring Township Police Department conducted a room to room search for the suspect and made sure all students and staff were safe. The suspect was apprehended off campus in the area of Shakepeare Drive and Tennyson Avenue. They recovered the weapon, a pocket knife, allegedly used in the assault on a roof not far from the school.
The victim was transported to Reading Hospital for treatment and is currently listed in stable condition and is undergoing treatment for his injuries. The injuries are described as non-life threatening.
School district officials and police notified parents and residents of the incident using an automated dialing alert system. All students from both Wilson Southern Middle School and the adjoining Cornwall Terrace Elementary school were dismissed.
Police say the incident was not a random act of violence, rather one student specifically targeting another student.
