The Eastern Sports and Outdooor Show has been postponed

The Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show has been postponed this year over the gun debate. Reed Exhibitions posted this statement to the show’s website this morning.

“Reed Exhibitions has decided to postpone, for now, the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show given the controversy surrounding its decision to limit the sale or display of modern sporting rifles (also called ARs) at the event. The show was scheduled to take place February 2-10 in Harrisburg, PA.

“Our original decision not to include certain products in the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show this year was made in order to preserve the event’s historical focus on the hunting and fishing traditions enjoyed by American families,” said Chet Burchett, Reed Exhibitions President for the Americas. “In the current climate, we felt that the presence of MSRs would distract from the theme of hunting and fishing, disrupting the broader experience of our guests. This was intended simply as a product decision, of the type event organizers need to make every day.

“It has become very clear to us after speaking with our customers that the event could not be held because the atmosphere of this year’s show would not be conducive to an event that is designed to provide family enjoyment. It is unfortunate that in the current emotionally charged atmosphere this celebratory event has become overshadowed by a decision that directly affected a small percentage of more than 1,000 exhibits showcasing products and services for those interested in hunting and fishing.

“ESS has long been proud to participate in the preservation and promotion of hunting and fishing traditions, and we hope that as the national debate clarifies, we will have an opportunity to consider rescheduling the event when the time is right to focus on the themes it celebrates.”

It "directly affected a lot more than a small percentage". Our 2nd Amendment rights were at stake!!! Go back to England Reed!!!

Correct. Had that been true, a postponement would not have been necessary. The People's best protest is saturating the event with their absence.

If your son or daughter were in the ground because of a AK rifle you would think different

Oh, were you referring to Newtown? Because the victims there were not shot with the AR-15. It never left the car. Check your facts!

My sons and daughter would conduct themselves in a proper manor by pulling their concealed handgun and eliminating the threat, for good.

Anyone in the ground is not because of an AK rifle, it's because of the sick SOB that that did the shooting of that or any other weapon.

I noticed that Reed entertainment changed the statement language from “banned ” to “limited”. What I can’t stand is liars and organizations not willing to admit when they were Wrong. They could of saved face a long time ago, so now the local economy will take the biggest hit for a British run company not understanding our Rights.

Chet more of our son and daughter die in back yard pools every year then by AR's or all guns! and if we want to get rid of drunk drivers lets just get rid of all car's and truck's. People kill people not guns!

You reap what you sew! You cancelled the show because you wouldn't make any money with all your vendors pulling out, and all the negative publicity affecting the gate. Don't pretend its about controversy – Its about you idiots biting the hand that feeds you. "WE THE PEOPLE" don't need you back – We'll have 20 promoters in overnight happy to take your slot at Harrisburg!

Ok – so I am pretty sure an AR was NOT used in CT, and in fact, if ANYONE is in the ground due to gun violence, guess what, the GUN did not do that act the person (CRIMINAL OR CRAZY PERSON) did. So, let's evaluate that statement a bit further for you right wing, gun control will solve all problems idiots; Drugs – humm…not winning that either. Guns..law abiding citizens who are responsible have a right to own them. Murder is already ILLEGAL through any means and let's see, there are beatings or strangulation, so lets chop off peoples arm: there are knives, well, let's control them too, there is poison, well, let's get rid of all substances that could kill someone, there are sticks (yes they too can be a weapon) so let's cut down all the trees. You idiots that want gun control do not realize that criminals will gain access to what they want or think they need, so gun control affects those people who would not USE IT TO HARM OTHERS but in essence, leaves them defenseless against those that can get them anyway. Go find a hobby to spend your time doing something useful…. Oh and the Eastern Sports show? Yeah, Reed your statements were a way for you to put your tail between your leg and walk away. I am sure someone who believes in what all our AMERICAN brother's and sisters fought for (our rights) will gladly put on a show and not cave to the idiots running our country (or cities) – God (YES I SAID IT) GOD Bless the USA

I urge all readers to contact their PA representatives and demand legislation to ban Reed Exhibits from ever leasing commonwealth properties for any venue, and to demand the State Attorney General's Office to sue Reed Exhibitions for financial losses incurred by all Pennsylvania citizens and businesses due to Reed Exhibition's irresponsible business practices. And Chet, I've cut out more dead victims from car accidents caused by drunk drivers than dead victims from gunshot wounds, but drunk drivers can still purchase and consume alcohol without any background check after they kill someone. Who are you referring to being killed by an AK anyway? Sandy Hook Students? Get your facts STRAIGHT!

Question? does the City of Harrisburg, and our local Senator have any say in this decision? and dont get me wrong i love Harrisburg , and looking forward to the farm show and the sportsman show every year since i was a child. but if this is what it takes(boycott) than so be it, time for the state of pa to hire the pa people who live here to get the job done! and if this is all about making money than hire someone who knows how to make it- hire Uncle Ted – that Ted nugent to you ! we need ted to help us on this one , he's got a set of ball's

Perhaps Reed will see that the people have more power than the governments wants us to believe. Our 2nd amendment rights are not a matter of opinion.

My how the land that enacted the Magna Carta has fallen, all knowing how they have dealt with their guns, immigration and rule of law in the past does not make me wonder at all, that a company with those roots, would not have the back bone to stand firm to what’s right.
