….A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY CONTINUES THROUGH 3PM TODAY FOR OUR ENTIRE REGION….Slick conditions due to ice are the main concerns, especially in the morning.

ICE TO RAIN:  A warm front is approaching Pennsylvania today.  Warmer air is slipping in just above our heads; however, it’s still near freezing at the surface.  So, the snow melts to rain, and the rain falls onto below freezing things on the ground like trees, power lines, and cars, and even some roadways.  This is a recipe for freezing rain and ice.  Here’s what we’re expecting….

Early, through 9AM: Snow switches to freezing rain for just about all of us.  Slick spots will develop on some roadways.  Icing will begin to occur on elevates objects, and even some roadways if untreated.

9AM-Noon: Freezing rain continues with ice accumulating up to 0.10” in many locations.  This will coat cars, trees, grassy surfaces, signs, power lines, ect.  Should be enough to cause a bit of a mess across the region, but right now we’re not expecting any major issues like widespread power outages or complete shutdowns, which typically occur with accumulations over 0.25”.  We’ll be below that threshold.

Noon onward:  Warmer air makes its way in as temps rise above freezing.  Freezing rain turns to a cold rain.  This happens first in the south, and slowly changeover will occur to our north though mid-afternoon.  Rain tapers eventually toward evening.

MIDWEEK WARMTH:  Once this mess is over today, we will warm up big time.  Expect clouds to prevail after a foggy start on Tuesday.  Highs will hit the low to mid 50s.  A few sprinkles or a shower is possible.  Then a vigorous system will push through Wednesday.  It becomes breezy as warm air surges in from the south.  Highs hit the upper 50s to near 60°.  A moderate rain pushes in through the day, tapering overnight as a few flakes.

RETURN TO CHILL:  Cold air slips right back in behind the system Wednesday.  We’re back into the 30s for highs Thursday, and into the 20s for highs by Friday.  No major systems are on the horizon for the end of the week and into the weekend.  There is a chance for some light snow showers or some flurries Friday into the weekend, but nothing organized.

Be safe today!  Give yourself the extra time you may need to navigate through the morning hours.
