Disabled Couple Traps Home Invasion Suspect in Basement

Anthony Kiekow, Velda City, MO (KTVI) — A disabled couple was able to trap a home invasion suspect in their basement Thursday morning, according to the Velda City Police Department.

Johnny Ledoux and Rosemary St. Clair woke up to find a man in their bedroom.

“We looked up and he was there,” St. Clair said. “Johnny jumped up, and the man took off running.”

The suspect ran into the basement.

“He stayed in there until police arrived,” St. Clair said. “He was scared.”

Ledoux said he stood guard while St. Clair called police.

“They were here fast and found him hiding in the basement,” she said.

25-year-old Raymond Carless is charged with burglary and is in the St. Louis County Jail.

“We are glad he is in there,” Ledoux said. “He is lucky I didn’t go in the basement.”

Ledoux had an arm amputated and St. Clair had a leg amputated, but they said that did not stop them from defending their home.

Carless has a criminal history that includes trespassing and theft.

Ledoux said he plans on getting a gun, in case this happens again.

“I just couldn’t believe that he came in our house,” Ledoux said, “Lost young man.”
