Washington DC has the highest population of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.
More than 10 percent of the adults living there fall into one of those categories. Hawaii has the second highest number. The lowest percentage of adults who identify themselves as part of the LGBT community is North Dakota.
The national average in each state is 3.5%.

There are plenty of people who don't "identify themselves as part of the LGBT community" but engage in LGBT sexuality regularly or occasionally. They are closeted or bi-curious so I predict the percentage is higher. It's to the point now where you cannot assume the people you talk to are straight.
