There was a big mess to clean up in Cumberland County after a tractor trailer crashed into a fire hydrant early Monday morning. Over 200,000 gallons of water came gushing onto the road when a big-rig took out a fire hydrant near Pleasant View and Bayberry Drive in Silver Spring Township. The driver fled the scene before police arrived.

United Water crews are on scene working to replace the fire hydrant. First workers need to excavate the site to remove the damaged hydrant before replacing it, according to Robert Manbeck, Public Affairs Manager for United Water.

No customers were affected.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact police at 717-697-0607.
