PennDOT District 8 announced today that work resumes March 4 on a 5.3-mile section of Route 419 through Heidelberg and South Lebanon townships and the villages of Schaefferstown and Buffalo Springs in Lebanon County.

The $2,110,572 contract was awarded on June 11, 2012, to New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co., Inc., of New Enterprise, Bedford County, and includes inlet work, drainage pipe replacement, curb cut work required by the Americans with Disabilities Act, roadway base repair, milling and resurfacing, shoulder backup, guiderail installation, sign replacement and new traffic lines. Last year construction crews removed a box culvert and installed a 38-inch by 60-inch horizontal elliptical reinforced concrete pipe.

PennDOT advises those who travel Route 419 that they may encounter single-lane restrictions with flaggers directing traffic through the work zone on weekdays after 9 a.m. as crews repair Route 419 between State Drive and Horst Road in preparation for resurfacing this summer.

Work under this construction contract is scheduled to be completed by October 2013.

Route 419, locally known as Schaeffer Road, averages more than 4,000 vehicles traveled daily.
