Here are the numbers on York High grad Will Beatty. He stands 6-6, weighs over 300 pounds and was drafted by the New York Giants in 2009. Beatty is 27 years old, wears #65 for the Giants and today agrees to a 5-year contract worth in the neighborhood of 38 million dollars. According to multiple sources, 19 million dollars of his new deal is guaranteed with his signing bonus over 12 million. He has an important job protecting Eli Manning’s blindside and today he gets paid handsomely for his services.

Will Beatty and the Giants shared a common goal this offseason, that the left tackle would re-sign before the free agent could talk to other NFL teams on March 12. Today they accomplished their mission when Beatty put his signature on a new five-year contract.
“It’s good to be home,” Beatty said. “It’s a great feeling. You could be going through free agency, but when that happens a lot of stuff is going through your mind. That feeling is no longer there. You’re settled in with a great team, a team I love playing for. I know the coaching staff. I’m looking forward to getting back in it and moving forward.
“I’m glad I don’t have any of those free agency jitters to deal with. It’s settled, we’re done and we’re moving on. The contract is behind you – you just have to make sure you’re out there on the field and being a leader out there.”
The Giants are happy Beatty will be doing that in their uniform.
“We are very pleased to get a new deal done with Will,” general manager Jerry Reese said. “We believe he is one of the ascending left tackles in the NFL.”
Beatty is entering his fifth Giants season. In 2012, he played in all 16 games with 15 starts, including one in the season opener as an extra tight end. Beatty missed much of training camp with a sore back. He returned to left tackle vs. Tampa Bay in Week 2, when right tackle
In his career, Beatty has played in 50 games with 31 starts – 26 at left tackle, 4 at right tackle and 1 as an extra tight end.
“I thought I improved last year, playing the entire season,” Beatty said. “I want to get back on the field and keep ascending, keep rising. The sky’s the limit for me. I know there is still a lot more out there. I haven’t tapped into all of my potential yet. I’m looking forward to performing and growing each year.”
Beatty joined the Giants as a second-round draft choice (60th overall selection) in 2009 from Connecticut. As a rookie, he played in 16 games, including four starts at right tackle.
The following year, he broke a bone in his right foot in the season opener vs. Carolina. He made his first career start at left tackle vs. Jacksonville on Nov. 28. In 2011, Beatty started the first 10 games at left tackle before suffering a detached retina vs. Philadelphia on Nov. 2. He underwent surgery, was placed on injured reserve and missed the Giants’ postseason run that included a victory in Super Bowl XLVI.
Beatty said he was not tempted by the lure of free agency.
“If it’s a money issue, that temptation would come in,” he said. “But having this be my home team, I really didn’t want to go into free agency. This is the team that wanted me from college. This is the team that gave me my first chance. This team went to the Super Bowl. I saw so many great moments with this team and there are still so many more to come.”
