Area School Districts working together after threat

The Cumberland County Department of Public Safety released information today on area school districts working together to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Several school districts, including Big Spring, Carlisle, Cumberland Valley and South Middleton along with Carlisle Christian Academy, Grace Baptist and St. Patrick School have been working closely to provide an increased law enforcement presence in and around elementary school buildings.

The added presence was due to a notification received by Carlisle Area School District from local law enforcement of a non-specific threat, generated in a chat room, out of state, of a possible shooting at an elementary school in the Carlisle area. Police assure parents that there was no credible evidence to substantiate this information. However, police presence was requested to conduct safety checks throughout the day.

Police are still investigating this threat but all buildings continue to operate on a normal schedule today.
