The former general manager of a Shrewsbury welding company is charged with embezzling more than $300,000 from the business, and what’s more, he did it while the owner was away on maternity leave. James Robert Day, 42, of Glen Rock, was the general manager of Huber Welding Service, LLC. The owner of the company, Christine Kimball, contacted State Police in April of 2009. She accused Dayof giving himself unauthorized raises, bonuses and reimbursements, as well as using the company credit card for unauthorized personal purchases and selling and scrapping company-owned materials and pocketing the profits.

State Police investigated her claims. they found out that Day was hired by the company in 2004. He was promoted to general manager and entrusted with control of the company while Kimball was out on maternity leave. Day was fired in December 2008.

Day was arraigned today on charges of Corrupt Organizations, Forgery, Dealing in Proceeds of Unlawful Activities, Theft by Extortion, Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition, Theft by Deception, Receiving Stolen Property and Theft by Failure to Make Required Dispositions of Funds.

Huber Welding Services LLC is no longer in business. The company specialized in the fabrication and erection of structural steel and other miscellaneous steel projects. It had between 30 and 40 employees.
