Knife found in 2 year old’s birthday cake

A family in Maine says they found a knife in a birthday cake they bought for their two year old son.  They purchased it at Walmart.  The company apologized and told the family it will elminate the use of that particular knife in its bakeries nationwide.  The family says that’s not good enough and says they’re considering legal action.

I would. Wal Mart needs to wake up and smell the coffee that just taking something out doesnt make it right. I swear wal mart is POS companie

I dont get it…..why would removing that particular knife from use in their bakeries make this situation better?

I agree that more care should be taken and the choice of knives have nothing to do with it. But really they are going to sue? For what injury? For mental anguish? Common folks some Walmart worker moved the cake before it was decorated to that cardboard bottom and did not realize a knife was sitting on it. Pretty freaky but really that is something that should create a lawsuit?

Sure they want to sue….that's the lottery ticket they have been waiting for. They know Wal Mart will settle for a hefty amount just to keep more negative attention from this to spread

sue happy america….thats the problem with america. Everyone wants to sue…Well guess what happens when you win that law suit…The company is forced to raise their prices…Most lawsuits out there are idiots who dont know how use common sense…Granted not the case her…Simple mistake on a walmart employee. no harm no foul…If it was me i would probably be like sweet new knife.

Oh here we go suing a major retail store… that will get the fire started…. yes lets all sue everyone… NOT…..

Really??? Seriously? I should have taken a pic of that (witnessed) pill that fell from my wife's BK whopper…..

Removing a single knife will not solve a training/procedure issue. I used NOT a job for a no skill minimum wage employee.

I am not for government interference in business or personal lives, but this is a good issue for FDA control. The FDA already regulates equipment and sanitation in food processing. There should also be a skill and training standard as well.

Honestly, there was very little chance of harm due to this knife in the cake. But if the knife can get there, what else can? Even with the tight control at Pfizer, just about anything could easily be slipped into the mix without notice. serious harm could have been done to this cake and there is little anyone could do to stop it at the bakery. Just feel lucky it was a knife and not an unknown powder that was added.

Yeah. Just send some food back to the kitchen in a restaurant and then think about the things that are done to it before returning to you. Guess we should have security cameras in food prep kitchens for protection.

I know of many places that put on an act when the inspectors announce their inspections. The show is a drill. Best bet is to grow it, raise it, murder it, clean it, cook it, serve it, eat it yourself. Doesn't eliminate the poisons in the soil and water.

What CRAP. It's an obvious scam. Even if it wasn't, it's nothing to sue over. Let's pretend it actually was Walmart who make the mistake. BFD. It was just a small knife, the kid wasn't the one cutting into it, and it's not like anyone would have accidentally EATEN it. Get over it, stop with the ambulance chasing attorneys, and just get a life.

What a crock. This is a huge part of what is wrong with our nation. Entitlement to attempt to sue anyone for anything. Looking for a lottery out of someone's harmless mistake. Pitiful.

I now have fear of eating cake and I love eating cake now because of WalMart I've suffered many sleepless nights and although I wasn't at this party for the kid the sight of seeing the knife in the cake in this picture has caused me emotional distress. So I will sue them too! What a crock of you know what. Lets all sue. That is what's wrong with this country- well at least part of it!

Sue for what? Nobody was hurt and the knife was found in time. I hope these people do try to sue and the judge laughs them right out of his/her courtroom. People are idiots anymore. Mistakes do happen and at least Wal-Mart, who I can't stand, is trying their best to rectify the situation. What more do you have to do to please people these days?

This happened to our son's first birthday cake 33 years ago and my niece who was at the party worked at the bakery. When I took the knife back they said sorry and gave me my money back.
