A Maryland man is behind bars after breaking into a home on the 1100 block of West Poplar Street in West York Thursday night. West York Borough Police were called to the home just before 9:30 p.m. for a burglary in progress.

David Anuszewski, 30 of Baltimore, Maryland, forced his way through the back door of the home and a female resident was able to dodge him and escape through the front door. Police quickly arrived on scene and located Anuszewski. He refused to surrender to police and told officers to shoot him.

Officers say Anuszewski was intoxicated, disheveled and bleeding from cuts on his face. Police used a taser on the suspect but he continued to be combative and belligerent while being escorted to a waiting police cruiser. He was also screaming and yelling on the street causing further disturbance to residents in the neighborhood.

Police noticed a powdery substance on Anuszewski’s nose which was identified as heroin. He was also found to be in possession of several unmarked prescription pills. Officers questioned him on why he forced entry into the home and Anuszewski stated that he was there to defend another person from a domestic attack. The name of the person he claimed to be defending did not reside at that home.

Anuszewski faces numerous charges including with Burglary, Criminal Trespass and Resisting Arrest. Bail was set at $25,000 and he has been sent to York County Prison.
