FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — A former college soccer player tried to kick her way through the glass ceiling at the NFL on Sunday.
28-year-old Lauren Silberman became the first woman to try out for the league.
She gave it her best, but came up far short.
Silberman’s goal was to try a 60-yard field goal. She made two kicks, neither of which traveled even 20 yards.
She attributed her struggles to a quadricep injury she suffered earlier in the week while preparing for the tryouts.
Silberman graduated from MIT and played club-level soccer at the University of Wisconsin.
Some have praised her efforts to break into the male-dominated sport, while others wonder if the whole thing was a publicity stunt.
