West Manheim Township Police are still investigating Wednesday’s fatal crash on Baltimore Pike. After speaking to witnesses, it was determined that a 37-year old Hanover woman had been driving a Buick sedan northbound, at a high rate of speed and unlawfully passing vehicles in the opposite lane. A pickup truck was forced off the road by the driver near the intersection of Baltimore Pike and Fuhrman Mill Road.

Police say 1/10 of a mile after narrowly missing the pickup truck, the woman drove over a small hill while driving in the wrong lane and struck a Nissan Rogue head-on. The driver, Arliss Thomas Sr., 54 of Hanover, was injured and taken to York Hospital where he remains with multiple fractures. His son, Arliss Thomas Jr., 22, was a passenger in the vehicle and he was taken to York Hospital with minor injuries and was later released.

The woman died upon impact and police are waiting on toxicology tests to determine if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this crash. Her name is still being withheld until family from out-of-state has been notified.

Anyone that witnessed the crash or the Buick traveling on Baltimore Pike is asked to call West Manheim Township Police at 717-632-7059.
