Harrisburg began its Neighborhood Safe Zone program just last week along 19th and Bellevue Street.
The police have stopped drug dealing, apprehended three illegal guns and cited 17 traffic citations in that time.
These incidents have allowed police to start investigations that could later lead to more arrests in the city.
Mayor Linda Thompson says she is pleased so far in the direction the program is headed but there is still work to be done.
She also added it’s not about tearing down neighborhoods, it’s about restoring them as well. Along with the safe zone program, there is Operation Front Porch to help clean up those areas in the city.
The next target for adding extra security and barricades to the neighborhoods will be the Allison Hill area; however, after that the city will not be letting the public know where the next place it will be.
Police don’t want to tip-off any criminals that might by in that section of the city.

Is it just me or shouldn’t they be “cracking down on crime” every day. It’s a sad state when cracking down on crime is front page news and not a daily expectation.
