Pitts Reacts to Pennsylvania Unemployment Rate

unemployment

Congressman Joe Pitts (PA-16) commented today on the news that unemployment in the state of Pennsylvania climbed to 8.2 percent and also climbed locally in the 16th District.

Rep. Pitt’s statement follows:

“The news today that more Pennsylvanians are looking for work is worrying. While unemployment may be rising in part because people are getting back into the job pool, this shows how far we have to go before we reach a full recovery. The official unemployment rate has in some ways hidden just how bad the recession was. The sad fact is that we have millions of Americans who simply gave up looking for work. I remain very concerned that the government is putting up barriers to the creation of new jobs. Just last week, I led an Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee hearing looking at how some of the specific regulations of the new health law are making it harder for workers. We need small businesses to get bigger and we need more full time jobs. The health law punishes companies for growing beyond 50 employees and incentivizes the creation of part time work. That’s not what we need right now.”

So Joe says the only way he's willing to fight for new jobs is if Pennsylvanians are willing to work in sub-standard conditions and risk their health and well being for unappreciative employers looking to stuff their own pockets at the expense of their employees.
And then they wonder why the welfare line is so long.
Nobody "gave up" on finding work Mr. Pitts. We've simply stopped accepting the fact that you and your like care more for showing profits to shareholders than you do for taking care of your workers.
The days of slave and indentured labor are over. You want to run a successful business, then you need to take care of those that are doing the work for you to profit from.

More appropriately like a true union weenie. The welfare lines are long because free stuff beats working.
