The York Catholic girls basketball team lost in the “AA” State Championship game, 45-38 to Bishop Canevin, the WPIAL Champs from Pittsburgh.  The Irish had a 5 point lead heading into the 4th quarter but went cold in the last period, scoring just 5 points.

Kevin Bankos, YC Head Coach

“I told them that when we line up for the picture I don’t want any tears in the picture that I will put on my shelf with the rest of the stuff that I have.  We are going to celebrate.  We knew coming into the game, win or lose, it was going to be a celebration of a great year.”

Morgan Klunk, YC Senior

“We were kind of the underdog and we liked to show people we can play here, we can play with the west.  I mean I am not disappointed with 2nd place because they were a good team and I thought we played our hardest.”

The luck of the Irish not with York Catholic this afternoon.  They lose in the state finals for the 4th straight year.  But they still have a great year at 29 and 3.
