On behalf of Governor Tom Corbett, PennDOT District 8 announced today that April 1 construction crews will close the structure that carries Springwood Road over Mill Creek near the Village of Ore Valley in York Township, York County.

The contract for $471,252 was awarded on to C.H. & D. Enterprises Inc., of New Stanton, Westmoreland County, and includes excavation and removal of the existing structure, installation of a pre-cast concrete box culvert, roadway reconstruction and installation of new guiderail, signs and new traffic lines.

PennDOT advises travelers that initially they may encounter lane restrictions on weekdays after 8 a.m., however starting April 1 Springwood Road will be closed to through traffic for up to 90 days.

PennDOT expects this section of Springwood Road to be reopened to traffic in June. Until then, a detour which follows Route 74 to Main Street through the boroughs of Dallastown and Yoe back to Springwood Road will be in place. Work under this construction contract is scheduled to be completed by June 7.

Springwood Road, officially designated as state route 2002, averages 6,376 vehicles traveled each day.

The existing single-span concrete encased steel I-beam bridge that carries Springwood Road over Mill Creek was built in 1932, is posted for 18 tons and is considered structurally deficient.
