Paving Scheduled for Monday and Tuesday on Route 214 in Seven Valleys

Motorists are advised that construction crews will be paving the roadway approaches to the newly built bridge on Route 214 in Seven Valleys, York County, on Monday, Tuesday and possibly Wednesday (April 1-3). The new bridge was opened to traffic last December 26, but the final paving for the roadway approaches to the bridge could not be completed until the blacktop plants resume operation in April. The bridge is located on the west side of Seven Valleys Borough and crosses over the South Branch of the Codorus Creek. Motorists should slow down when approaching and traveling through the work zone. Flaggers will assist them through the work area, utilizing an alternating traffic pattern. The contractor will first mill off (i.e., remove) the existing blacktop and then repave the area with new blacktop. This section of Route 214, known as Main Street in Seven Valleys, averages more than 4,000 vehicles traveled each day.
The $2,097,834 design/build contract was awarded to J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, and included project design, removal of the existing structure, construction of a two-span pre-stressed concrete box beam bridge, roadway approach reconstruction, drainage work, and guiderail installation. PennDOT closed Route 214 on June 8, 2012 to start demolition of the old structure that was classified as structurally deficient.  The new bridge was built and opened to traffic on December 26, 2012.
