Deputy accused of helping inmate escape

inmateescapeA sheriff’s deputy assigned to the Denver jail is under arrest after allegedly helping an inmate escape.

Matthew Andrews was arrested Sunday night.

He is accused of helping Felix Trujillo, who escaped from the jail Sunday night, while wearing a sheriff’s deputy jacket.

Trujillo has a long, violent arrest record, most recently for aggravated robbery.

Lt. Matt Murray of the Denver Police Department says, “Clearly this person is a danger and we want the public to be aware of that, know that we are working in cooperation with the sheriff’s department and law enforcement in the metro area to locate and apprehend this person.”

Investigators are still trying to determine if anyone else was involved.

Andrews faces a felony charge of aiding an escape.
