Mechanicsburg man arrested in string of armed robberies

A Mechanicsburg man was arrested Thursday in connection with five armed robberies that took place in Cumberland County.  Alex J. Kennedy, 24, 1500 block of South Market Street,  is facing numerous charges including robbery, theft by unlawful taking, simple assault and criminal conspiracy.

The robberies occurred throughout the Mechanicsburg area in November and December of 2012, police said.

Kennedy was arrested at his home on Thursday on unrelated charges.

He was taken to Cumberland County Prison in lieu of $500,000 bail.

Police responded to the first robbery on Nov. 4 2012 at the Pizza Hut along the 600 block of East Simpson Drive. Authorities say a crowbar or stick was displayed.

The second robbery occurred at the Subway in the Windsor Park Shopping Center on Nov. 12, 2012. Authorities say a crowbar or stick was displayed during the robbery.

The third robbery occurred at Hemps Above along the 100 block of North Arch Street on Nov. 15, 2012. Police say a gun was displayed.

The fourth robbery occurred at Subway along the 1000 block of Wesley Drive on Nov. 18, 2012. Police say a gun was displayed.

The fifth robbery occurred at the Subway along the first block of Gettysburg Pike on Dec. 11, 2012.  Investigators say a knife was displayed during the robbery.

The investigation is ongoing.
