A York County man, convicted in March of assaulting, threatening and intimidating his estranged wife, was sentenced today to three years 10 months to eight years in state prison followed by six years of probationary supervision.  Additionally, it was ordered that he have no contact with the victim’s family. The case was unusual in that the victim of the assault died before trial from an illness unrelated to the case. That meant prosecutors had to pursue a conviction without her testimony.

In January, 2012, Ronald Davis Sr., 56, was living with his estranged wife at 1673 Rainbow Circle, West Manchester Township, York.Davis was taken into custody on Jan. 16, 2012, and charged with assaulting his wife. He was sent to the York County Prison following his arrest, where his phone calls were monitored by law enforcement.

Evidence revealed that in phone calls from the prison, Davis threatened to assault the victim, and sought to pressure and intimidate her into dropping the charges.

In a jury trial in March, 2013, Davis was convicted of two counts of intimidation of a witness or victim, one count of simple assault, one count of criminal conspiracy to intimidate and one count of criminal use of a communication facility.
