Governor Tom Corbett today thanked the Senate Law and Justice Committee for holding a hearing on liquor privatization.
“The Senate today took a first step in bringing Pennsylvania consumers choice and convenience,” Corbett said. “I want to thank Senator McIlhinney and his committee for recognizing the importance of this issue.”
Noting that the Law and Justice Committee focused on the social implications of a private system, Corbett said:
“Public safety must be the number one focus of state government and I’m pleased that the Senate is taking that seriously. Because House Bill 790 calls for increased enforcement and enhanced penalties for those who sell to minors or those who are visibly intoxicated, Pennsylvania will be even better protected from the harms of alcohol abuse under the new system.”
“We know that consumer choice and convenience and social responsibility are not mutually exclusive,” Corbett said. “We remain committed to making sure that as we move into the 21st century, we will not sacrifice safety or responsibility.”
