Shippensburg hit a home run this past weekend, winning their NCAA Regional.  Nobody expected the Red Raiders to be in that position, given the fact, they didn’t make their own conference tournament.

Jimmy Spanos, Shippensburg Infielder (Mechanicsburg)

“A lot of teams said we don’t belong there, we didn’t make our own PSAC Tournament so we shouldn’t make regionals.  Even during games, they were saying, you don’t deserve to be here, stuff like that.  That was probably our main motivation”

Tyler Shover, Shippensburg Catcher  (Camp Hill)

“A lot of people didn’t think we deserved it because we didn’t make that tournament.  We definitely used that as motivation to build on top of that and it was a proving point to show what we did there and now to see where it goes from here.”

The next stoop, the division two College World Series, where the top 8 teams meet in a double elimination tourney.  Its held in North Carolina.  The same state where Shippensburg won their regional title.

Matt Jones, Shippensburg Head Coach

“I think we are 7 and 2 in the state of North Carolina this year.  So yeah, we are psyched to be going back down there.  Our AD said, maybe we should schedule them all down there next year.”

Shippensburg does have one victory in their history in the College World Series.  It came back in 2008 when they beat Franklin Pierce.  The same team they will face this Saturday in Cary, North Carolina.
