A Newport man accused of attacking a Pennsylvania State Police trooper is faces charges. Authorities say Cameron Erwin Drum, 47, was in custody at the Newport state police barracks on May 2 when he became agitated and assaulted a state trooper.

Drum allegedly grabbed Trooper Roussell’s arm, knocked him to the ground and then jumped on top of him, according to state police reports.

Two troopers came to his aide and were able to restrain Drum.

The troopers involved suffered minor cuts and bruises from the altercation.

Drum was arraigned and taken to Perry County Prison in lieu of $25,000.

He is charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for May 31.
