A Boiling Springs High School teacher who’s been on unpaid leave since his arrest in 2010 is trying to convince the South Middleton School Board to let him teach again.
Shane Stought was due to plead his case Tuesday night. But, 90 minutes after the hearing was scheduled to begin, the hearing officer said a tentative agreement had been reached. The details will not be disclosed until the school board votes on the agreement. A date has not been set for that vote.
Stought was teaching social studies when he was arrested. Investigators said he was going to a home in Cumberland County to buy drugs.
At the time, John Neal, Jacquelyn Neal and Jason Carver were also charged for their roles in the cocaine ring. Court records show the Neals entered into plea agreements that included prison time. Carver agreed to one year on probation.
However, Stought ultimately had all his charges dismissed. He completed a court-approved Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition (ARD) program. His attorney, Karl Rominger, said that included fines and community service.
Rominger and the school district declined to comment on the terms of the agreement.
