In this week’s “Pay it Forward,” a cancer survivor is extending a helping hand to other Central Pennsylvania families dealing with cancer.
The Jeff Musser Foundation’s 10th annual golf classic was held Wednesday at Foxchase Golf Club in Stevens, Lancaster County.
Musser was inspired by family and friends who raised money to help his family after he was diagnosed with leukemia 13 years ago.
“It broke my heart seeing little kids and their families going through, what I was going through and they needed some help financially, so we formed the foundation,” Musser said.
The Musser Foundation receives referrals from area children’s hospitals about families who need help paying everyday living expenses.
“Jeff has been a savior, he really has,” said Kathryn Zinn, whose 11-year-old granddaughter Miranda is battling leukemia. “He’s helped me out a lot, not just physically, but emotionally he has too.”
FOX43 decided to pay it forward to Musser, for everything he has done to help others.
“We try to find someone who is deserving of $200 because of what they’re doing in the community and so this week, you’re that person,” FOX43’s Trang Do told Musser.
“Oh that’s awesome!” he said. “Thank you so much!”
Musser is inspiring those around him to pay it forward. When chicken farmer Jeff Snyder won $2500 from the Monsanto Fund to give to his favorite charity, he didn’t hesitate.
“Just wanted to help kids somewhere and I’ve known Jeff from the chicken business for quite a few years and he was always good with money, so I figured that was a good place for it to go,” Snyder said.
This year, the Jeff Musser Foundation is helping 13 families. The tournament raised upwards of $90,000.
