Manheim Township grad Austin Gallagher hopes to catch the eye of a major league general manager. He’s settling in nicely with his hometown Lancaster Barnstormers. Gallagher is hitting .263 through 19 games with the Barnstormers and connected for his first home run earlier in the week. He wears number 39 and is playing primarily first base.
The 24-year old spent six seasons in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization prior to this year. He was taking part in the Phillies extended spring training when they released him in May. The spot on Lancaster’s roster is keeping him in the game.
“The coaching staff and the players have been great,” Gallagher said. “It’s obviously a different league with different pitching. The guys here are a lot smarter so it took me a little while to get adjusted to but I am starting to feel like I am finally setting in. It’s been a great experience so far.”
Gallagher and the Barnstormers are on the road at Bridgeport for a series this weekend.
