Lancaster County has a new tourism chief and a flashy ad campaign to kick off the summer tourism season.

The PA Dutch Convention and Visitors Bureau will be rolling out two television commercials in select markets to show people what the county has to offer.

The bureau estimates tourism will be up 3-5 percent this year.

Research shows the county sees a lot of repeat visitors.

“Word of mouth is very strong and people keep coming back, so they must love the product,”  said Kathleen Frankford, PA Dutch Convention & Visitors Bureau’s new president. “They’re probably getting here and realizing that there are so many different things to do besides Amish and shopping.”

According to the bureau, Lancaster County tourism brings in about $1.8 billion dollars a year to the local economy.

It also provides 22,000 local jobs.
