People living in northern York County are on alert after a recent bear sighting in a residential neighborhood. Police received a call on Thursday after a black bear was spotted in the area of the Pin Oak and Pheasant Ridge developments in Carroll Township.

The bear appears to be young, weighting approximately 150 pounds, police said.

Wildlife officials were contacted and are trying to locate the bear.

Police caution residents to keep bird feeders, grills and garbage cans in a locked shed or garage.

Do not approach the bear and if you see it, contact 911.
