Bank robbery suspect caught after fleeing on bike

Police say a man who robbed a bank in Manheim Township and fled the scene on a bicycle was captured Friday.

Thomas J. Eckert Jr., 31, unknown address, is charged with robbery and theft. He is accused of robbing the Citizens Bank at 14156 Lititz Pike.

According to police, Eckert entered the Citizens Bank shortly after 4 p.m.  and handed the teller a note demanding cash.

Eckert was giving an undisclosed amount of cash and then fled the scene on a bike.

A short time later, Lancaster City Police spotted Eckert, who matched the description of the suspect, in the 100 block of North Duke Street.

He was stopped and held for Manheim Township officers, who took him into custody.

Eckert was arraigned and taken to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.
