The Phillies and Ryan Howard have not been the same since the final out of the 2011 National League Division Series.   On the play, Howard tore his achilles tendon and did not return to play in a game until July 6th of last year.    Howard will once again miss an extended period of time due to an injury.   He needs surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left knee and will be out six to eight weeks.

Howard has been limping and playing through the pain this year.  He is hitting .266 with 11 home runs and 43 RBI’s this season.   The 2006 NL MVP went on the disabled list on Saturday.   The Phillies missed the playoffs in 2012 and are 43-46 this year.
