COLD FRONT: The much advertised cold front moves through today, slowly but surely. Expect mainly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and some thunderstorms during the day. Winds will begin to shift northwesterly ushering in some slightly drier and cooler air. Highs today will hit the low to middle 80s. Keep the umbrellas handy.
UPPER LEVEL TROUBLE: Remember the cooler and drier weekend we had advertised for a few days? Not anymore. With the slow movement of the front and the back building of an upper level high, a lobe of energy aloft gets pinched off right over the state. Some models hinted at this yesterday, but all are on board today which changes the forecast. Eventually this will race into the central U.S., but Friday and Saturday it’ll sit right over top of us. So, here are the changes.
Friday, expect mainly cloudy skies. We’ll be cooler too as some drier air at the surface and cooler air slides in form the northwest. This couples with clouds and cooler air aloft. Expect highs in the upper 70s to near 80°. Scattered rain showers and a rumble or two are in the cards for the day. Saturday, we’re a bit warmer as the lobe of energy slips a bit south, but we’re still partly to mostly cloudy with the threat for some isolated showers. We hit the low and middle 80s.
SLOW RETURN TO HEAT: Some clouds linger into Sunday but the shower chances slowly fizzle. Highs Sunday will hit the upper 80s as an upper level high pressure builds into place. This high will grow into next week, giving us party cloudy to mostly sunny skies and low rain chances. Highs will hit 90° and be in the middle 90s by mid-week.
