SIZZLE, SIZZLE: Two down, four or five to go! We’re sitting amidst the hottest days of the year here under a July heat wave, thanks to an upper level high pressure dome. Highs over the next few days will hit the middle 90s. Humidity values peak late in the week, so heat index values are settling in the low to middle 100s in the afternoon hours. Each day will be sunny with a few clouds. With this much heat and humidity, an isolated storm may bubble and drift, but they never last long and they’re often fired along the ridge tops. Rain chances are squashed for the most part through roughly Thursday.
TIPS: Remember to take it easy and stay hydrated with water over the next few days, especially if you work or play outdoors. Avoid the hottest part of the day for outdoor work if you can, from 10AM-3PM. If you have to be outdoors, wear loose fitting, light colored clothing. Take plenty of breaks and find shade or AC if possible. Don’t forget the kids, pets, and elderly, who often don’t tolerate the heat as well. The pool is a great place too, just don’t forget the sunscreen.
WEEKEND: Friday, we may see some isolated afternoon storms bubble. By Saturday, the ridge of high pressure responsible for this heat is shunted well to our south as a kink in the jet stream allows a front to drop through the state. Expect a warm and muggy start to the day with storms arrive later in the day into the night. There could be strong to severe storms with this system as it moves through. Sunday, the rain should be gone by daybreak, with lingering clouds for the day. We’re cooler and less humid and that spills into Monday of next week. Enjoy!
