Harley-Davidson said today its second-quarter profit moved 9.9% higher as demand for the company’s motorcycles increased here in the U.S. and in international regions.  In recent quarters, the motorcycle company has reported better profits following a major overhaul of its manufacturing operations, including the plant in Springettsbury Township York County, to create a smaller but more flexible workforce.  ‘Harley-Davidson again drove strong financial performance in the second quarter, reflecting the many improvements in operations we have made throughout the Company over the past few years as well as our brand strength globally,’ Chief Executive Keith Wandell said in a statement.  Harley-Davidson recorded a second-quarter profit of $271.7 million.  That’s an increase from $247.3 million in same period one year ago.  U.S. Harley-Davidson dealers sold 58,241 motorcycles in the latest quarter.  That’s a 4.4% increase year-over-year.  The Milwaukee-based company will unveil its 2014 lineup of bikes next month.
