Weather conditions permitting, spraying to control adult mosquito populations will be conducted during the evening hours on Monday July 29, 2013 in Manchester Township.  The spray event will be in the residential and commercial areas in the vicinity of North George Street, from Masonic Drive to Emigsville and east along Woodland View Drive to Grim Lane    Samples collected by PA Department of Environmental Protection and Penn State Extension from this area indicate high mosquito populations that can carry the West Nile virus in these areas.  Signs will be posted the day of the spray event to inform local residents.  Weather conditions and other unexpected events could delay or cancel this spray event.  The rain date for this spray event will be Tuesday, July 30, 2013.

The business unit for York County Commissioners is BU 8376.  All spray events will be conducted by the York County WNV Program staff.  A truck mounted ULV spray will be conducted.  The product used will be Biomist 3+15 ULV and may be applied up to the label rate of 3 ounces per acre.  This product is designed to provide quick knockdown and effective control of adult mosquitoes.   The insecticide is applied in concentrations significantly below what someone would use spraying a commercial insect control product in their home.

Certain species of mosquitoes carry West Nile virus, which, when transmitted to people, can cause West Nile encephalitis, an infection that can result in an inflammation of the brain. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, all residents of areas where virus activity has been identified are at risk of getting West Nile encephalitis.
