Nearly 25,000 rubber duckies raced down the Conestoga River in Lancaster on Sunday to raise money for children with special needs.
Schreiber Pediatric Rehab Center hosted its 25th Annual Rubber Duckie Race and Festival at Lancaster County Central Park. Those taking part bought duckies to float down the river and the purchaser of the duck that crossed the finish line first won a $1,000 Visa gift card.
The festival also included pony rides, face painting and carnival games.
“Today is a really wonderful event, a great opportunity for families to come together.  We try to really make the event friendly to families with special needs, so alot of the games and arts or crafts are in accessible places for children who may use wheelchairs or walkers,” says Barbara Kavanaugh, Public Relations Coordinator of Schreiber Pediatric Rehab Center.
The event raised $117,000; that’s $6,000 more than their fundraising goal. The money will be used to help fund programs for children with disabilities and developmental delays in Central Pennsylvania.
