An Adams County fire department is celebrating 100 years of service.
Biglerville Hose & Truck Co. #1 is marking this milestone all year long, and with a parade on Saturday.
About 50 pieces of fire apparatus, many from neighboring departments including Cumberland & Franklin Counties, joined in the parade to show support for the century of service.
The fire company was chartered on November 25, 1913 with eleven members and one hose cart. Today, it operates a fleet consisting of an engine, a tanker, a heavy rescue, 3 ambulances, a service truck, and a utility/ATV. The company responds to an average of 200 fire and 2000 EMS calls per year.
Saturday’s parade also marked the Adams County Volunteer Emergency Services Association (ACVESA) Fire Convention, which was hosted by Biglerville this year.
FOX43’s Weekend Anchor Jaime Garland was happy to serve as Grand Marshal of the parade down Main Street.
After the parade, an open house was held at the fire station, along with a cook out, games and musical entertainment by local country sensation Brittany Opperman.
