A police chase that began at about 2:16 Monday afternoon in Lancaster ends with a crash knocking out power to dozens of homes. City police attempted to stop a wanted person driving a vehicle along the 800 block of East King Street. The driver failed to stopped when uniformed officers activated their emergency lights and sirens. The driver continued fleeing east on King Street and south on South Broad Street.
Continuing on South Broad Street the driver lost control along the 500 block crossed over the northbound lane and crashed into a PPL utility pole at the intersection of South Franklin Street and Chesapeake Street. The pole sheared off at the base and electric wires fell to the ground. The area was secured to await the arrival of PPL repair crews.
As a precaution students from nearby George Washington Elementary School and Edward Hand Middle School were kept inside until the driver was taken into custody. The driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment. There were no other injuries.
Police say their investigation continues.
