A Pennsylvania State Senator is looking to reduce plastic bag pollution by proposing a two cent fee on each bag you use at the checkout. State Senator Daylin Leach is taking a lesson from other cities across the country that are charging people per plastic bag.  He says the goal of a two cent charge per bag would be to get people to make sustainable choices, like using canvas bags.

Giant Food Stores is against the proposal. They told FOX43 that they support customer choice, not  taxing their customers. And, so are many other people FOX43 talked to.

“ It would definitely affect the grocery bill and you use the plastic bags for other things like a trash bag, when you take the dog out, so it`s like we use these bags,” says Michelle Diaz of Harrisburg

Of the two cents  one penny would be kept by the retailer, to improve their recycling practices, while the other penny would be returned to the state to fund their recycling programs.
