Its called the Battle of the Bridge and its one of the best rivalries in Central PA.
Christian Buser, Eastern York Senior
“They’ve always been our rivals. We’ve always not liked each other so much. Its the first game of the year, usually the first game of the year. The Battle of the Bridge.”
Keith Wakefield, Columbia Senior
“Us seniors, we’re excited that we get to play Eastern. We beat them last year but it was a really good game. We’re ready to come out there and shut them out and punch them in the mouth. “
Thats just a football term, no actual fighting this week. The score will be settled on the field between players that have a history of competition.
Rick Brubaker, Eastern York Head Coach
“They play a lot of things in the summer with these players. They’ve known them from all kind of activities growing up so the rivalry is the biggest one we have all year long, especially how close it is. Two teams on the opposing sides of the river, connected with a bridge. Its really big deal and important for the kids. They really take it personally.”
James Burke, Columbia Head Coach
“We played for a while in the 90s and there were some scuffles and kind of things with players and fans. We stopped playing them for a long time and then about 8 years ago we started playing with them again. We’ve won a majority of the games but its a very tough matchup its a tough matchup, its tough.”
