A Shippensburg man is in jail after he assaulted a woman and chased another man with a crow bar. it happened Monday afternoon on the first block of Cumberland Avenue. Police were called to the address earlier in the day for a domestic incident between Lee Wells, 22, and McKenzie Ward, 20. Police talked to Wells, but say Ward wasn’t very cooperative with them at the time. After police left, Ward called her family and told them what she wouldn’t tell police; that Wells had beaten her and that she needed medical attention.
Wells returned to the scene and got into a scuffle with Ian Smith, 31, of New Kingstown. Smith took Wells to thwe ground for fear he was going to attack Ward again. When EMS arrived, Smith thought the police were there and let Wells off the ground. Wells ran to his truck and got a crow bar and chased Smith with it. Wells fled the scene, only to be arrested by officers resoponding to a second call at the address.
Wells never hit anyone with the crow bar, but Ward suffered bruised ribs as a result of the first assault. Ward is charged with assault, terroristic threats, reckless endangerment and harassment.
