A man was arrested for assaulting an off-duty state trooper after a fight between cheerleaders broke out at a midget football game in Cumberland County on Sunday, police said.

Officers were dispatched to Village Park located along the 1800 block of Suncrest Drive in Carlisle for a report of a large fight around 6 p.m.

An off-duty state trooper was at the game and tried to break up the fight when he was attacked by one of the girls relatives, police said.

Damien Jones, 29, of Harrisburg, is accused of knocking the trooper to the ground and attacking him.

According to police reports, Jones stated he didn’t care who the trooper was before throwing him to the ground.

Jones was subsequently taken into custody at gunpoint and placed in Cumberland County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.

He is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 23.
